Bella & Fifi

I would love to have a cute little van selling chocolate, or even better, delivering flowers! This one belongs to Bella + Fifi, a Bristol-based florist which mainly uses locally-grown and organic flowers. Isn't it cute?

Comfort Station

Love these necklaces from Comfort Station, including the barometer, £145, {today I'm between fair and excellent, how about you?} and the sliced poetry, £185 {which uses pages from antique poetry books.}

Tea of the week: Rare Tea

Just some more tea packaging I like, this time these tins from the Rare Tea Co.

Spring forward and Happy Weekend

The clocks go forward tomorrow {I feel it is my civic duty to remind you of such things.}

This week, I have had a new routine. I work from 7am - 9am, then go out to the Common, buy a coffee and the i-paper {which I think is not a bad read for 20p, with a lot more content than the Metro} and sit by the pond, listening to the trains rumble past. Today I took a camera. Still a lot to improve on with my photographs, but believe me they are much better since I took this course last year.*

{En route}

{I'm lost, please put the word out.}

{I like to see some signs of autumn still hanging around.}

{My dream - a gate from your house which backs onto the Common}

Have a lovely, springy weekend, wherever you are!

*I want my photos to look like Wellies and Vogue's photos. I think Tori should run a bloggers' photography workshop - anyone agree?

Straw styling competition: the winners

A big thank you to everyone who took part in the straw styling challenge: Royal Wedding Edition! The challenge was to style a party scene using stripy paper straws. I still have not had any ideas of my own!

First, the runners up:

When the party's over by Mathilde Heart Manech from Yorkshire and Royal Wedding {straw}berry Party {!} by MK Wings from Edinburgh. Congratulations - you both win 2 boxes of straws!

And first prize goes to....

Down the ale {brilliant!} by Thimbles and Crumbles, written by Surrey-based Sarah. I loved the 'Buck Palace Fizz' and all the props - doesn't it make you want to have a picnic? It's almost warm enough... Sarah wins a £50 voucher for Papermash. Please visit the winners and say hello! All other entrants win a £5 voucher.

Also, to celebrate, I'm offering 15% off today at Papermash if you fancy stocking up on street party supplies; just enter code straws at checkout.

Amy Blackwell Polaroid prints

An admission to the blog world: in my deepest heart, I'm not sure how I really feel about bunting {although will always love mini varieties such as this mini bunting and pram bunting.*} However, bunting + Polaroid + print seems like a pretty winning combination. Polaroid prints by Amy Blackwell {Bunting + also Suitcases, both £10.}

*Also saw this retro London bunting I loved this week, so perhaps I'm still undecided.

A history of fashion...

Once upon a time, when I was a teenager, I thought that if I could shop in Next for the rest of my life, I would be happy. I can still remember a cream denim jacket with felt embroidered leaves, which I desperately wanted. Then, in my early twenties, I thought I was ever so stylish in my Jigsaw suits in my first professional job. Since then, my shops of choice have been Reiss, then Topshop.*

Now, I love everything in Hobb's NW3 range. 1. Nightingale sweater {£69}, 2. Fly shift dress {£139}, 3. Poet shoes {£169}, 4. Bluebell earrings! {£35.}

*Almost everything I own is navy, that hasn't changed much. I'd love to hear how your tastes have changed over time.

Painted...

I must have an inner artist trying to get out, as I'm always drawn to images which display paints in different ways, or of mixed-up, dirty palettes and worn canvases. Love all of these by Emma Lee {whose food photography portfolio is particularly stunning.}

New at Papermash

Some new items available at Papermash: Alphabet masking tape (£3), Heart hole punch (£10) - first spotted on The Crafty Currant, Japanese paper balloons (£2.75), Who can blow up the biggest balloon tape (£6).

Spring bird card (£5), Mother's Day card (£3.25), Furoshiki (£3.99) (these are Japanese style cloths, which are reusable and can be made into shoulder bags, scarves, and wrapped in many different ways) and leaf masking tape (£4.75.) There are lots of other new items here.

Pretty packaging...

...and a luggage tag makes everything look so much more appealing, or are you not swayed by such things? Vintage items from online shop Florence and Florence.

Tea of the week: London's best afternoon teas

A few weeks ago I reviewed Orange Pekoe for The Times, for a list of London's best afternoon teas. Orange Pekoe is a small tea shop in Barnes which is one of my favourites, and was a delightful experience, with warmed scones and a very knowledgeable 'tea sommelier'. Above is the loose tea I took home. You can read my review here {if you are a subscriber, or want to pay £1 for the privilege.} I quite fancy the others on the list too.

{Above, brown bottle from Sunbury Antiques Market; striped porcelain spoon from Lisa Stickley.}

A flower-filled Friday + Happy Weekend

I have a flat full of flowers, as I go a little over the top when buying flowers for photo shoots. It's a nice treat, as it is my birthday this weekend. I have received almost all of my cards already. Organised people stress me out. I actually own a birthday book, but I've never written any birthdays in it!

It is Midcentury Modern again this weekend - anyone going? I may skip it as there is only so much window shopping one can do... And if you are around Shoreditch High Street today, there is a fundraising Cakes for Japan sale which looks yummy.

Have a lovely weekend.

Blogs: Irish edition

A few Irish blogs for St Patrick's Day;

I have only just realised that Bridget Farmer is behind Flax Fox, but I have been reading her blog for a while. Bridget is a printmaker {the style of etchings above are available at this Etsy shop}, who is currently living in her home country of N. Ireland after several years in Australia, and her blog shares her work and inspirations.

City of Blackbirds is written by Eadaoin, whose photography I love {her dreamy prints are available on Etsy.} Eadaoin also has another blog {and I find one quite enough work!} which features less of her personal work, but more of the work of others, Blackbird & Shell.

I would love to hear of any other Irish blogs you can recommend. And, just a reminder, entries for the straw styling competition close this Sunday, 20th March.

Vladimir Longauer

Tea-toned photographic prints I love from Dublin-based Vladimir Longauer {who is not Irish - the clue is in the name; he is Slovakian.}

Happy St Patricks Day + Flax Fox

Happy St Patrick's Day! If you are into that kind of thing - I am not. {Update: I have just seen some photos of St. Patrick's Parade in Belfast today, the costumes were amazing, thanks in part to my cousin Christine}.

For the first time in my life, I have heard of potted shamrock this week {from more than one source}. Do people really buy such things?
Anyway, look what arrived in the post for me today! It's a print of Belfast terraces from Flax Fox. They look exactly like that too. I think it is an early birthday present from my brother - he is really the only likely suspect. Thanks brother G! You can see more of Flax Fox out and about in Belfast here.

Merchant & Mills

Love the packaging on this oilskin bag kit {£48} from Merchant & Mills in Hay on Wye. The packaging on all of their haberdashery items is traditional and elegant - anyone need a set of leather handles? They run short bag-making courses too.

{via Han Picked.}

PS So, so pleased to hear that Nao's family are safe and well in Japan.

Wednesday workspace: Roman and Williams

A scalloped roof {I'm sure that's not the technical term} and sepia tones from the portfolio of New York interior designers Roman and Williams.

Abodent

An inexpensive new source for hardware, Abodent sells pretty vintage-style hooks and drawer pulls.* I am planning to buy Ikea's linen cabinet {owning a linen cabinet is my dream} and change the handles.

*Abodent is a Tea for Joy sponsor - however, this is not a guarantee of editorial coverage - all product selections are based on my personal taste.

Tea of the week: tea and clutter

One of many great photos from the blog of photographer Anja Mulder. My flat looks a lot like this today, although much more untidy, as I'm preparing for a photo shoot tomorrow and there are props everywhere. I'm a little overwhelmed. I like playing around as a stylist but it doesn't always come that naturally to me. I think I need a lie down.

Image first seen on Your Tea Time, via Alisha (thanks!)

British Blogs

Lilac and Lily is the blog of Warwickshire-based florist Helen, who shares her own work as well as inspiring finds, all of which are just my style. Photos: Lilac and Lily.
Emily Forgot is written by a graphic designer with edgy taste in product design {well, perhaps just edgier than mine} - and has her own shop selling her prints, too. Above are a perpetual calendar by Enzo Mari and teddy bear rug by Agustina Woodgate.

I have mentioned Pacha Design several times before, but I do love their blog and its aesthetic which is so consistent with the style and ethos of their own sustainable furniture range. I especially love their own nature photographs, such as those above. Look for their collections series from last year. Photos: Pacha Design.

I have lost the linky lists on my previous posts, so if you have a British blog, or have one to recommend, please leave the address in the comments and perhaps a brief description of what it's about and where you live.

My definition of British is either a) based in Britain or b) being a British expat elsewhere. I look forward to making some new discoveries - I hope you will too! Previous suggestions are here: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Casual style

I'm on a mission to reduce my possessions by 50%. Obviously, this involves buying new things. I'm donating or throwing out all the clothes I don't like/are beyond repair, but that is most of my wardrobe, so it makes sense to replace them with some items I might actually wear. Logical, right?

Some casual items I have spotted: 1. Ally Capellino mini satchel {£100}, 2. Striped scarf {£25}, 3. Wyldes Print pumps {£79}, 4. & 5. - not quite shorts weather yet, but have you seen the new collaboration between Laura Ashley and the People Tree? There is a fab jumpsuit {I can't tell you how hideous I would look in it, but I'm sure there's someone younger and skinnier who would rock the look.} I'm very tempted by the shorts {£55} and this skirt {£55}.

Max Attenborough

A few photos from the still life portfolio of photographer Max Attenborough. Aren't they pretty? Oh, and flowers in cut crystal glasses are my new favourite thing - I will be pilfering my mum's glasses the next time I am home.

Stylist on the top photos was Marie Nicolls, bottom photos Selina Lake. Photos: Max Attenborough.

£5 finds: Zeena Shah

Hello! Today is first in a new series, £5 finds, where people share their favourite bargain, which they have paid £5 or less for.

My first participant is textile designer Zeena Shah. I first spotted Zeena's work at a craft fair, when her designs were so prettily displayed in vintage suitcases. Her textiles include lavender owls and pin cushions, and she sells some lovely tapes, too. Here's the story of Zeena's £5 find; thanks Zeena!

"My £5 find was in my local charity shop. I love the patterned book and have been collecting Observer's Books for a while now so was very excited to find another! I am also a vintage tea cup hoarder and couldn't resist another to add to my collection, plus at £5 for the whole lot I couldn't say no."

Natasha Newton

When a shop and blog is named The Blackbird Sings, it's guaranteed to catch my attention; love these bold birds from Natasha Newton.

A bird and a constellation - two of my favourite things... Natasha splits her time between London, Paris and Suffolk - check out her site for more of her work, including some fabulous book covers for Random House.
