Apple crates

My grandparents had an apple orchard next to their house in 'apple county' Co. Armagh - if I'd known that crates were going to be such a lasting trend, I'd have siphoned off a few for future use.

Bailey's (crates £20); my cousin Christine's wall display. Christine has a craft stall on Saturdays at St George's Market, Belfast, so on Saturdays she just unhooks them and takes them from her house to the market (where they form part of her stall display.)

A pretty (but not particularly load-bearing) display, seen on
Design Sponge.

An easy coffee table; Lexington's (seen on Countrydays.)

Living Etc. You can buy castor wheels at shops like B&Q.

Some other crates resources, if you don't have a family orchard; from top left, Hibbits (£20), Metro Retro (£10), Plantstuff (£15).

Not bored yet? Check out these other crates posts from around the internet; Design Squish, Poetic Home.

My family is also from Ireland and I've always had a thing for apple crates!

I love crates as well. I was lucky enough to find a set of three being sold with my name on them. I think I am a type of potato. They say "Sandy". Is that apple or potato?

These photos looks like something straight out of the cutest country cottage!

Sandy - how exciting! But I've no idea...doesn't really sound like either?

Really great ideas - love the 'above-the-sofa' idea :)

I love apple crates but they are always so darn expensive at the antique shops. You have found some great inspirations photos. I want one on wheels, please.

I really loved this post! and you found relatively cheap crates too- £10 is quite good i think. I bought 12 crates from shoreditch market about 4 years ago and I love them. (You can see a pic of them here: http://seedsandstitches.blogspot.com/2010/01/new-year-pottering-and-mini-house-tour.html) but i am now thinking about putting them up on the wall- it looks so cool above the sofa.
