Hi ho, it's off to work I go

Tomorrow I'm starting a new job for a few months. I have assembled a few essentials which are necessary for a new job.

1 & 4: New dresses from Toast and Whistles. Even though my new workplace seems to have a jeans culture, I like wearing dresses as they make you stand out, and so you are more likely to get promoted. When I left my last job, the managing director told me she 'admired my fashion choices.' She didn't mention anything about my strategic input...

2 & 3: A head-turning handbag and shiny new shoes - for the professional and polished lady look.

5, 6 & 7: Never ignore the importance of back-to-school (or work) stationery, so I'll need a new notebook, calculator and a fountain pen - writing in a fountain pen garners respect from your superiors - or didn't you know?

8, 9 & 10: Some special first pay cheque treats to celebrate! A Polaroid subscription, tiny alphabet earrings, and a cluster of flowers for my hair. The only issue I can think of (except for the perhaps more pressing need to pay off my debts instead of frivolous spending) is that my initials are 'lr.' If I wear the 'l' earring in my right ear, and 'r' in my left - will people think I've lost the plot?

I did not know about the fountain pen and the dress 'secrets for success!'

You cracked me up with that bit about the alphabet earrings. Truly hilarious.

I'm in love with those flower hair pins, too. If only I could decide on a color!

Those earrings are absolutely adorable! I saw them on the same blog. Have you seen their other jewelry items? If not, i think you should take a look. I posted some of my favorites up on my latest blog post as well. My initial problem, however, is that I'm a very poor poor girl who likes lots of shiny (and/or old) things. :[

Oh lovely. My only regret about my chosen line of work (I'm a veterinary student) is that I won't be able to wear dresses to work! I think I'm going to go down the James Herriot route though, I've got to have some sort of sartorial kick to get me through the day!

I'd say success is pretty much a given in that Toast dress. You'll have people crawling at your feet in no time (in a good worshippy kind of way). I want it too.

And congrats on the new job!

I've embraced dressing wearing in the midst of the jean culture...and I do always stand out in a dress. Now, I just need to embrace the standing out part;)

I love fountain pens and use themf or journaling and a lot of other things. If you do get one for work, you might want to be sure youget some ink for it that is waterproof. Words running off the page is not a pretty sight.

Good luck on your new job!
I like your blog and layout.
By the way, how did you manage to get gadgets on both the left and right side? I have been wanting to do that, but have not been successful thus far.

Thanks!

Oh, and Rachel the best thing about the shoes is that they are from Clarks! Not sure if you have it in the US, but in the UK it's one of those places you went for school shoes. They've brought out some great styles in the last few years - and they are great value!

Oooh, amazing, Lynne! We do have Clarks here, and I think they are known for being super comfortable. Is that right? I'll have to check it out.

Rachel - yes, they are comfy - I bought the most comfortable summer sandals of my life there last summer. They didn't look that exciting...but I can never find comfortable sandals - so I didn't care!
