Thief!

Last weekend I was in the garden, hanging out my washing and minding my own business, when I spotted these gorgeous roses growing over the fence.

Quick as a flash, I went inside for my secateurs, and a few snips later these were mine!

It probably doesn't reflect well on me when I say that I never noticed these flowers before - I only wish I had seen them sooner! There are around 20 large roses in the garden - but most of them are past their finest hour. Imagine how fragrant and bloom-filled my home could have been...

I should explain that the garden is totally overgrown as there's no-one living there at the minute (due to a probate sale) so I'm only helping to cut back the chaos. The ones I cut are hanging over the fence into my garden anyway (well, almost), so I think that legally makes them mine? (Although if most of them weren't half dead I would have ploughed right in...)

absolutely. you are perfectly entitled to take thing hanging over your fence intoyour land, and you are obviously only doing any prospective owner of said garden with their future gardening endeavours. kudos to you.
also, lovely pretty flowers :)

Oh who cares! It's the same thing. If the owner was around and you ask for a few roses they would naturally share! I mean, it's just roses.

They look beautiful! Wish I could grow them here!

The law actually says that anything within your garden is your's so you are right!

I've known gardeners who don't seem to think anything of leaning into someone's front garden to take a cutting of a plant that takes their fancy so I think this is nothing in comparison. They're so beautiful, they deserve for someone to enjoy them.

The beauty of roses are surely meant to be shared! I'd say snip away Lynne and enjoy!

They are gorgeous.

You monster. Technically it is theft! You are allowed to cut the branches hanging over your property but I fear you must then throw them back over the fence.

But pretty roses should be admired!

Well if no-one is there... Of course you can have them, I say so!

they look stunning - I was recently at a flowers press event for M&S and fell in love with their pink and yellow roses, and the most utterly gorgeous hydrangeas which I think might be my favourite flower now. Incidentally, I'm trying super hard with my photos. I tried a few over the last few days with cakes, like the link below. Do you find me improved?! I have no idea about lighting either, so simply took them all by the window for natural sun... hmm... technical...

The roses are gorgeous!
Lynne, you must have an enormous garden if you haven't noticed them before...

Gorgeous! There are more than a few rose bushes on my walk to the tube station and I have to say I've been pretty tempted to get the secateurs out myself!

They are beautiful and you made me laugh and feel a twinge of guilt. I have been cutting my neighbour's roses too, they hang right over and are entwined amongst my own shrubs, I feel sure I am legally entitled but all the same, I make sure their car is gone before heading out with my secateurs.

Your blog is lovely, I just discovered you via Domesticali.

O my goodness, those roses are gorgeous!
If no one else is living there and they are hanging over your fence, I think you did the right thing by taking some. At least you are appreciating them :)
