Midcentury Modern show this weekend

If you haven't been before, I definitely recommend the Midcentury Modern fair which is on at Dulwich College in South-east London this weekend. It happens twice a year, and there are a fantastic range of vintage and vintage-inspired goods.

I'm planning on going, but I've never been before. I'm sure there will be lots of eye-candy, but in my head I imagine a lot of the stuff for sale is very expensive, and not compatible with my modest budget. Is this right, or can I hope to leave with something bargainacious?

It's not too cheap, no - but it's inspiring! And there are a few modern designers selling stationery etc - at least there were last time. I think it's a nice thing to do in conjunction with hanging out in Dulwich for the afternoon. The college is beautiful, and Dulwich Picture library and Village are well worth a visit.

I was at the last one and it was fab.. full of tempting furniture and fabrics. Came away with a lovely glass lamp base and a wicked tie for the bloke. It was embroidered with men under umbrellas- I had to buy it for him!
Thanks for the reminder it's on!

Hi Lynne, thanks for replying. I decided to go to the show today, and wasn't disappointed at all! I met ceramicist Linda Bloomfield (had seen and admired her stuff at the Country Living Fair two weeks ago - but today I met the lady herself), and I got lots of leads for the wardrobe I'm trying to buy! Also, it really confirmed some of the style decisions I've made, and things I'm planning in my head. And, as you said, the college is magnificent, and my friend and I enjoyed a little walk to the Village and had a decent Sunday pub lunch too!

FYI, I followed up on a lead from the show, and bought a spectacular art deco wardrobe from Crystal Palace Antiques and Modern last weekend, for less £££ than I would have spent at IKEA :D

Bethany - sounds like a great find! I'm going to check out this shop if you think it's worth a visit? It's not too far from where I live.

Well, I travelled from NW5 to Crystal Palace, and would go again if I was looking for something antique, or a unique gift and was at a loose end. If you live nearby, it's worth popping in. My wardrobe is being delivered next Friday, I will send you a photograph of it in situ if you like? I've just bought my first flat, and have had a lot of fun furnishing it with items both old and new, and trying to find a way to make inherited furniture look "me".
