Shuella

One of the side effects of having a career break is that I have time to watch daytime TV. I've just seen these Shuellas on tv 4 times in the last 24 hours. They are a cross between a shoe and an umbrella, and are supposed to be worn over your shoes to protect them in the rain. I suppose it is quite a practical idea...

They have just come out in the UK, in Kurt Geiger. They were touted as being really popular in the US. Can anyone tell me if this is true, or are the designers just trying to fob them off on gullible Brits? My fashion consciousness has slipped somewhat as I have gotten older. Ten years ago, I worked in the US, and I could not understand these women with tights and trainers. I felt so stylishly superior as I walked to work in high heels. But as the years have gone by...well, lets just say I'm not so opposed to the idea (and I have potential feet problems, I need to look after them.)

But Shuellas? I think I would draw the line. Then again, I am always caught short without an umbrella, so the chance of me having my Shuellas when I need them is non-existent.

I have never heard of those before, and I have seen my fair share of infomercials over here in the U.S.!

I certainly won't claim to be the most high fashion person in the US, but I have never even seen these before! I think they're trying to create a fake trend.

Having spent the last two years living and working in NYC, I can say I think they're trying to dupe you...I've never even heard of these, let alone seen people wearing them.

The funny thing is, the big thing over here is 'imitating' Brits by wearing Hunter rain boots at the slightest hint of precipitation. We're convinced that we're channeling posh upper crust aristocracy as we shuffle around town in our 'authentic' English boots. Does anyone in England wear them off the farm?

I live in NY and I've never seen those either!

mmm, as I suspected. Citysage - one of my great irritations is people who wear wellies when it's hardly raining - people NEVER wear them in a city, walking in the streets - but I have seen quite a few posh mums walking dogs in the parks where I live, fully clad in wellies.
