In my wardrobe

Last week, I started back at an old job for 4 weeks, which is a great opportunity and I negotiated to start at 10 (so I can post my parcels before work.) Starting at 10am feels like a holiday! I'm very blessed indeed. I had to smarten up my act very quickly.

Wardrobe of a stationery shop owner: I love jersey fabrics and anything comfortable, so I usually wear something like the above, plus I love anything shiny. 1. Gold zatchel £45, 2. T-shirt dress £89, 3. Scarf, 4. Studded slippers £28; I bought these and will be going back for other colours - they're very comfy! 5. Pencil skirt £30, 6. Pencil necklace £41, 7. Glitter ipad case £260 (so, I don't have an Ipad and this is expensive, but isn't it fabulous?)

The scarf (3. £80) is from Beulah London. I heard their young founders speak at a conference last week. These young women in their early 20s have such a passion for helping women in India escape sex trafficking - you can read more here. This scarf was a collaboration with the UN Blue Heart campaign, which raises awareness of the problem of human trafficking.

The budget for the wardrobe of working in a 'proper job' is a lot higher, believe me. I'm working in a professional environment in a large company, but it's not super stuffy (I haven't worn a suit to work in years, and don't intend to again.) But, I'm pretty traditional when it comes to appropriate work wear - I'm not a fan of open-toed shoes, sleeveless tops, short skirts etc. So, this is the kind of thing I'd like to wear... 1. Blazer £129, 2. Patent bag £139, 3. Nippon shoe £129, 4. Pleated skirt £99, 5. Washed blue shirt £120, 6. Rose gold watch £219, 7. Retro glasses £95.

Do you have much difference in your work and leisure wardrobe? Mine is not so different, as I usually wear dresses and skirts all the time. If you're writing an article on people who can never get jeans to fit, sign me up, please! I've decided the key to a successful shopping trip is to not even bother trying on trousers!

I love the striped dress and skirt, and that watch is gorgeous.

Your new wardrobe suggestions look very good to me, I agree with you never wear a suit ever again for work, I am very lucky to freelance in a media office where people are very relaxed about the way they dress and when at home I look like a comfortable mess. Enjoy your temporal job and make the most of it, and lets enjoy the nice weather that is coming our way.

I am a bit of a lazy dresser at work. About every six months I resolve to make more of an effort... it usually lasts about a week. It's perfectly fine for me to dress casually for the office but in some ways I wish I worked somewhere it was necessary to make an effort. I find it a bit dull that my 'work' and 'home' clothes are the same!

The second outfit is my favourite - I love everything about that green pleated skirt.

Thanks all - I'm already running into problems as I don't have any 'heatwave' smart clothes :)

Great choices... coveting the jersey dress! My working wardrobe is quite quirky but smart (usually) than my 'just me' wardrobe is a bit more random! Quite fond of wearing thing that I couldn't get away with at work! ;)

These outfits are lovely. I am a no jeans wearer, so casual Fridays are always awkward for me!

Congrats on the job Lynne. And I really like the studded shoes and the striped dress and skirt. I have never visited Hobbs online shop before. I am in serious need of updating my work wardrobe as well and especially with this heat wave. Most of my work clothes are quite boring.. black and grey. Not ideal for the sunny days we've had this past week. Hope you are enjoying the weather :)
