A history of fashion...

Once upon a time, when I was a teenager, I thought that if I could shop in Next for the rest of my life, I would be happy. I can still remember a cream denim jacket with felt embroidered leaves, which I desperately wanted. Then, in my early twenties, I thought I was ever so stylish in my Jigsaw suits in my first professional job. Since then, my shops of choice have been Reiss, then Topshop.*

Now, I love everything in Hobb's NW3 range. 1. Nightingale sweater {£69}, 2. Fly shift dress {£139}, 3. Poet shoes {£169}, 4. Bluebell earrings! {£35.}

*Almost everything I own is navy, that hasn't changed much. I'd love to hear how your tastes have changed over time.

That's funny because whils tmy tastes have changed in terms of where I shop (I'm now very much a Zara guy!) I still always gravitate to greys and navys.

I find myself constantly waivering between bohemian and classic. Right now I'm trying to collect classic structured pieces to compliment the slew of vintage dresses hanging in my closet. Great post!

I love this post! In the 90's I loved Monsoon and Jigsaw. I went through a Next phase when I was younger too. I think now, in terms of high street, I like Toast and J.Crew but ultimately I think I'm wearing similar colours and shapes, though updated through the years and, of course, I can afford nicer things now!

Jane - I love Toast's editorial, like everyone else in blog world, but I think that in reality their clothes are awful. I saw a vibrant pink dress last year that I loved - but in the shop it was much duller and it was like a sack! I didn't even try it on and I went there purposely to find it!

PS I love J Crew - probably more than all the rest, because its bright colours suit me, but we can only buy online here + I can't be bothered to buy clothes online. x

Alexandra - your vintage dresses sound great, but my foray into vintage shopping hasn't turned out well - I like natural fabrics and there's a bit too much polyester - would love to hear if your experience has been different!

My fashion aspirations over the years have flitted between hippy chick and rock chick, neither of which I feel I can very successfully pull off as I get older. These days my fashion maxim is "Can I walk the dog in it?"

Love that dress need to check out Hobbs NW3. My tutor at Saint Martins was knitwear designer there and I remember having a few days work experience painting swatch colours! I'm still making fashion mistakes but they started with a white satin blouse and black satin bow tie with blk puff ball at 13....I thought I was the dogs nuts!!!! The fashion advice I would give to my younger self! xxx
