Americans usually fry or scrabble their eggs, not much on the soft boil I guess. Which I love. It is also hard to find poached eggs which is my favorite. I blame it on the quickness to scramble an egg and go.

I don't believe it: think I have coffee cups that match those egg cups! They used to belong to my grandparents. Some rooting in cupboards is called for.
I'm now craving a boiled egg and dippies... Mmmm...
They are certainly not as common in North America - I remember having to search and search for them. Number 5, I've seen the matching teacup set! All lovely!

we do have egg cups in here, but i usually see them at thrift stores. i guess we americans are just too impatient for our food to sit & enjoy them (and therefore require the use of egg cups). :)

Definitely not common in the US. I've never had an egg that way, and have never heard or seen anyone order them in a restaurant. And you never see egg cups anywhere other than thrift and antique stores.
I forget about boiled egg and soldiers. Maybe if I had one of these lovely egg cups I'd feel differently!
I love the egg cups, but I don't like eggs. Most people I know like eggs, but the end up stacked in a bowl after they are boiled. Kind of like no one bothering to use a formal tea set anymore. I guess! I would grow wheat grass in these for home decor.
So very sweet. Somewhere recently I saw egg cups that had a base exactly the same as the cup...and you put your 2nd egg inside to keep it warm! Isn't that a great idea!
Funny you mentioned this because I recently purchased some at Crate and Barrel (US). Even used them this morning! They have a few varieties but their classic white are lovely. The site even offers a perfect egg timer you can pop into the pot. Perfect soft boiled egg every time!
