A lot of Victorian properties have alcoves on either side of the fireplace, which often have built-in shelves and cupboards on either side (as does mine.) But I love this cosy corner (which still has shelves above) and am imagining it would be a lovely place to write letters next to a glowing fire. Yes, it's getting chilly here already and another year has passed without me having investigated whether I can open up my fireplaces (which I am not even sure are blocked up.)

I actually was just admiring the same thing in a another photo that I recently saw. It really is a lovely thing to have. :)
Always fancied one of those leaning shelves desk things... does indeed look like a nice cosy corner to write away the hours.
I read the beginning of this post, then looked up at my fireplace (that I am sitting opposite) and to the left of it is a little alcove exactly the same as the one in the picture! But ours has a t.v. in it :( not a cute little desk. What a lovely idea. I have never thought about that. x
I was just obsessing about workspaces this morning. This is a great cosy corner!
there's still time to find out about your fireplace! it's so lovely having a crackling fire to sit by, even though the heat mostly disappears up the chimney.
oh i would love a workspace like this!
Such a quiet and serene little corner. I love the window too - important to have lots of light!
