Beautifully British: Teresa Green

Today's featured artist is Teresa from Teresa Green Design. I love the natural materials she works with, and her fine-drawn illustrations, which adorn a range of very useful products, available at her shop.

Thanks, Teresa, for taking part in this series.

Brief bio: I studied printed textiles at Loughborough College of Art and graduated in 2000 with a collection of deckchairs. I soon set up my studio in an old stable building in Leicestershire. and extended the range to include bed, table linen, kitchen textiles and recently children's clothing. For the past 5 years I have also been a part-time lecturer at Nottingham Trent Uni.

Describe your work: There is a traditional underpinning to my work. Drawing and collage and my starting points. I source natural materials to work upon - cottons and linens from the UK and everything is screen printed by hand enjoying the uniqueness and error that hand registration gives. Its important that the things I create have a function.

What inspires you: My collections of household objects, tools, and antique haberdashery inspire my work. a traditional sense of proportion and time that draws me to these starting points. Each piece evolves within its own creation and is not mapped out in advance. Pieces have a whimsy of their subject and are elongated to play and toy with balance and proportion.

Describe a perfect day: A meander around the Sunday car boot sale, a long walk and afternoon tea and cakes - perfect...
