Tea of the week: Tea at Liberty

A few weekends ago, I went to Liberty for afternoon tea. Their tea shop is in a little enclave off the handbag department (a dangerous place to hang around) and you can't help but feel ever so sophisticated stopping there for a drink.

I love using a tea strainer, even though at least twice I forgot about it and poured my tea straight into the cup. Not so sophisticated. My tea was accompanied by a crumpet with lemon curd (yum) and a rushed attempt at taking photographs in a packed room. Sorry about that, but I hope you get the idea.

You can't beat tea at Liberty's. A pot of lapsang and a heap of scones there is my idea of heaven. There is an additional joy in being tucked away behind the handbags, you're right!

I've always enjoyed having tea in a cup rather than a mug. tea cups are an important part of the overall tea experience. Many people fail to understand

A friend sent me a link to your blog and I'm thrilled that she did. I am too far away (Gig Harbor, WA, USA) for tea at the Liberty, but many of us over here love going to tea.

I agree with Nabeel. Tea in a mug is not having tea. I'm not sure why they got so popular.

Hello, I'm from Australia. I found your blog very interesting and surely you do have lots of goings here. Tea for joy is quite a charming name of a blog and I smile a lot about having your Tea at Liberty. Sometimes, it is not bad to break away from too much convenience of English protocol and formality. Take from us. We are too laid back. And most English who come to this continent tend to adapt the "take it easy" style without compromising enjoyment in those simple things in life such as your "tea for joy." G'day to you! Smile!

I came across this blog via my blogs of note link in my dashboard, clicked on it as the tea roused my curiosity! I have written a post on my blog about what tea means in my life at different stages, it is integral and essential - culturally and aesthetically as well as delicious and probably addictive. Please visit my blog and look at the post http://deise-dispatches.blogspot.com/2009/01/blessings-of-nice-cup-of-tea.html which is my tea tribute. also feel free to follow my blog if you like. I will add you to my bloglist I follow.
Cheers - Catherine.

"Just made up my mind" on the 3rd May when I arrived in London.. I'm going to Tea at Liberty, for a cup of tea with scones.

Thanks for this blog, it really made a person feel like going out and enjoy a cup of tea, and not always stay indoors!!

I'm very new at blogging. I found your site and feel as if I'v found a soul-mate. I love tea, would love to have a tea room on the web, I have some books I'd love to get published, and I too thoroughly enjoy antiques (junktiques), garage sales, and 2nd hand shops. Thanks for the connection.

Just stumbled across your blog via 'You are my Fave'. Lovely to see some gorgeous tea shops and really enjoyed your blog. If you are ever in Leigh-on-Sea, there is a great tea shop 'Stop the World' that I visited in Feb this year. Delicious!
