Cookalong

On Friday evening, a friend and I took part in Gordon Ramsay's Cookalong. It was a lot of fun. We made a lot of substitutions to his recipes, as the ingredients list was very extensive. We also hadn't done enough of the prep beforehand. I think you really need to prepare all the ingredients and start on assembling the food beforehand. Everything was delicious.

Warm goat's cheese salad with an apple vinaigrette. We used brown bread instead of white.

Salmon en croute. We skipped the en croute part, left out the dill for the potatoes, and used Colman's mustard instead of wholegrain. Wholegrain would have been better, but it turned out really well.

Caramelised rhubarb and ginger crumble with clotted cream. Or not. We had all the ingredients to make the crumble top, but we were really running out of time, and wanted to eat our main course, so we just had the fruit. Gordon went really fast. We didn't have rhubarb, as it's out of season (tut, tut, Gordon), so we used strawberries and apples instead. We still caramelised the sugar, used ginger and rum, and substituted clotted cream with creme fraiche.

It's repeated tonight, at 8pm.

Looks lovely, even without the encroute and the crumble :)

You have inspired me to do it this Friday. The menu looks good, apart from the main - lasagne - which I have far too often anyway. Jon wants to cook this though, as he is not as experienced in lasagne-making as me. I'll feed back to you...
