Wednesday workspace: glamorous

I'm usually more interested in eclectic clutter than matching lamps, but occasionally I see something very traditional and I'm smitten. Plus, I am always in search of a comfortable chair {this is not comfortable} - and this one is yellow, bonus!

New stock at Papermash

Some recently stocked items at Papermash.

Paris and London notebooks, £2.75 {with Liberty on front of the London design!}

I like to include subliminal messages in the styling {hi, Louise!} Large waxy tags, £4, which would also look good for labelling storage options such as industrial steel crates, or an old suitcase...

There's that pen again, it belonged to my father. My favourite new item: graph tracing paper envelopes, decorated here with gold striped masking tape. What would you put inside?

I have just decided to offer a small giveaway, which won't be anything too generous this time, but a few small goody bags of samples/tapes I have had returned from photo shoots etc. If you'd like the chance to win, leave a comment before the end of Wednesday with what your favourite new Papermash item is, and I will pick 3 winners at random.

Simeon Farrar

It is well out of my price range, but I can't help adding this bag {£170} by Simeon Farrar to my wishlist...

Tea of the week: Amy Merrick

Beautiful, wild, teapot styling {although she may call it floral styling} from Amy Merrick.

Wednesday workspace: and then there was light

I've taken to evening walks with anyone I can find, determined to make the most of the evening light while we still have it {it's dark at 9 now, and dull in the mornings.} I love the idea of working at this table, with such huge windows and so much daylight.

Straw styling

So, I'm a little more interested in photos with striped paper straws than the average person, but I love this photo by Katie Quinn Davies of the delectable blog What Katie Ate. A similar crate can be found here.

{PS A late summer discount: 15% off at Papermash with code tfj, until the end of tomorrow, Tuesday.}

Paint your own pottery

I have been to two hen weekends over the last month where an afternoon activity was paint-your-own pottery {one in Oxford and one at Smarty Paints, near Wandsworth Common}. I devised a foolproof strategy after previous mistakes {can I paint a flock of birds in flight - no} and stuck to stripes. I was finished hours before everyone else! I thought I might never see either piece again but this weekend I was reunited with both and feel very proud. Flowers are leftovers from my lovely friend Sarah's wedding on Friday.

Chase and Wonder

'She rides above it', {£60}, a print I truly love, from Chase and Wonder. It reminds me of my first trip to the cinema, on a school trip to London, where I stayed in the Regent's Palace Hotel off Piccadilly, ate Dunkin' Donuts, and watched an odd film whose name I can't remember, about a strange man in an airship or a hot air balloon. Any ideas what it might have been? What was the first film you saw at the cinema?

UPDATE: it was The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Thanks, Erin and Sara!

Have a calm weekend + links

A crazy week, with riots, being sent home from work, community solidarity and clean-up, empty streets, and then, quickly, everything seemingly back to normal... Hoping for a calm weekend, hope you have one too.

Food packaging

Am always sucked in by stylish food packaging; 1. Spring onion seeds from Allotinabox {they provide seasonal grow-your-own kits}, 2. Lorina Pink lemonade, 3. Daylesford Organic's tomato ketchup {an amazing but pricey organic shop in London}, 4. Joe & Seph's popcorn, which I'm desperate to try - flavours include caramel macchiato and whisky, goats cheese and black pepper, caramel, pepper and chilli, 5. The Bay Tree's farmhouse pickle.

Summer basket

..from Summerill and Bishop. I can think of many uses for a French rattan basket {£65} with scalloped lining - just lovely.

Woven Oak

Woven Oak is a block-printing textiles company, run by a couple, Lizzie and Leo. They use traditional techniques in their designs, which are printed in India. Items included above are 1. cushions, 2. Napkins {£32}, 3. Wash bag {£16.50}, 4. Notebook {£16.50}. I hope to check out their collection at William Morris' Hammersmith home over the next few weeks {am organising a TFJ outing at lunchtime, thinly veiled as a work excursion!}

Live with joie de vivre...

I have been very fortunate with the amount of press I have received for my shop, Papermash, but am always especially excited when I see my items styled in a different setting. I loved this page in Easy Living's August 2011 edition which featured the Joie de Vivre and Sweet Dreams banners, and the sweet tagline "Live with joie de vivre and your nights will be filled with sweet dreams!" Thanks to Beatrice and Milly for including them!

Someday I might have a theme...

...of only sea photos and pictures in my home {which might not work in my South London surroundings.} I especially like this Eigg Sun print {£35} by The Windmill Stump on Folksy.

West Norwood Feast

Just a few photos from yesterday's West Norwood Feast, a relatively new monthly market in South London, which sells food, crafts, vintage clothes and furniture.

Shiny shoes from Tortoiseshell Vintage.

Secret recipe coleslaw from Salad Club {a very delicious component of their yummy chorizo wrap.} I once had dinner at a secret supper club they used to run; it was superb.

Parsnip, pecan and ginger cake, with mascarpone and honey cream; yep, it was delicious.

I loved these soft leather pouches, too. West Norwood Feast is on the first Sunday of each month, details can be found here.
